Dan Kwian, renowned for its exquisite pottery, holds a distinguished place in Nakhon Ratchasima's identity, even gracing the provincial slogan. However, the local businesses are facing decline, a reality that resonates deeply with us. While acknowledging the sensitivity of this situation, the need for modernization and adaptation is critical for these businesses to regain their past prosperity.
Driven by our concern, we participated in this collaborative project. We engaged with Kriangkrai, a representative of the village and the current generation owner of Din Thai. Despite his fresh perspective, Kriangkrai admitted a limited background in design. This prompted us to offer our expertise, developing a series of new patterns for this revitalization effort.
Drawing inspiration from the local environment, including the Mun River's flowing waves and the imagery of rice, we crafted four distinct patterns. These designs were deliberately minimalist to achieve a contemporary aesthetic. Furthermore, the patterns are designed to be rotated, allowing for a multitude of unique configurations. Beyond design, we recommended a higher firing temperature to darken the pottery, addressing the perception of orange bricks as outdated.
