You'll find field crabs featured in many local Thai dishes, like Som Tam. They're often preserved, too, as seen with the products from this field crab collective in Surin province. They produce a ground chili paste made from field crabs, offering a valuable alternative protein source for the community. However, their final product was sold in large, non-standardized packaging, lacking the modern safety features that extend shelf life compared to larger brands. This is where we stepped in to help.

We advised them that in today's economy, where consumers are looking for both affordability and quality, they should significantly reduce the packaging size. The packaging also needed to be sealed to prevent air, humidity, and germs from spoiling the product. This would help them sell their product for longer without spoilage, which can lead to higher costs.

We also suggested a design overhaul. The goal was to maintain a consistent design across all products, but use different colors to distinguish each flavor. Now, they don't just compete with other producers nationwide; they can compete worldwide. This more standardized packaging means they can ship their carefully crafted chili paste across borders. This allows the members of this local business to earn more, and they can grow their farm to feed people all over the world.
