Khon Kaen is a city that frequently faces flooding, despite its hilly terrain. The root of the problem lies in poor waste management and the worsening effects of climate change.
The late Khun Keng, founder of this community enterprise, was determined to end this cycle. He began surveying his neighborhood, the Thung Setthi community, to identify the source of the issue. He discovered a massive amount of waste—specifically, discarded vinyl banners. These expired banners were being dumped and eventually clogged the local drainage system. Khun Keng’s solution was simple but brilliant: collect the vinyl and transform it into products that generate income for the community while preventing floods.
The project produces a wide range of goods, from bags and hats to jackets. The process is straightforward but clever:
Once woven, the fabric is sewn into finished products.
Through our team's collaboration, we’ve taken the development a step further. We’ve integrated additional fibers into the weave to smooth out the sharp edges of the vinyl. This makes the texture soft to the touch, no more worrying about getting scratched.
Furthermore, this "vinyl-woven fabric" is incredibly tough. It’s perfect for furniture upholstery, whether for indoor use or outdoor settings. Since it's made from high-grade outdoor billboard vinyl, you don't have to worry about it tearing or becoming brittle under the sun.
