The Department of Industrial Promotion (DIPROM), through its Industrial Promotion Center Region 5, is driving grassroots economic growth by opening new doors for local Thai textile entrepreneurs in the Northeastern Special Economic Zone. The center has officially launched the "Tradition Meets Modern: Making Thai Heritage Textiles Timeless" initiative. This program aims to help local artisans transform their time-honored, traditional weaving techniques into contemporary fashion and lifestyle products that resonate with the tastes of today’s younger consumers, particularly Generation Z.
The initiative is part of the "Special Economic Zone Connected Industrial Development Project" for the 2026 fiscal year. It is designed to modernize Thai heritage textiles to meet the demands of today's market while equipping local businesses with comprehensive skills in product design, marketing, and brand building. The ultimate goal is to seamlessly integrate traditional Thai textiles into the global marketplace.
Preserving Heritage, Injecting Modern Design Across 4 Target Provinces
The project focuses heavily on supporting entrepreneurs and local weavers across four key provinces: Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, and Maha Sarakham. The core highlight of this initiative is the fusion of "ancient and traditional weaving techniques"—deeply rooted in local wisdom—with cutting-edge creativity and modern design. By doing so, the project aims to revamp the image of local textiles, making them chic, unique, and highly appealing to Gen Z consumers who value authentic stories and cultural identity in the products they buy.
